Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) facility.
  • Day shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM).
  • Patient ratios may vary due to high patient volume; expect ratios from 1:4 up to 1:5 or more during surge periods.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York.
  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications:
    • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Emergency Contact Form (prior to start).
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year residence/work/school history
    • Sex offender registry
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (annual)
    • Education verification
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York specific, annual).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific N95 masks required).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted).
  • Immunization or positive titer proof for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 – Mar 31).
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination.
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Professional references:
    • 2 for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles
    • 1 for per diem non-acute care roles
  • Annual competency exams including:
    • Medication/Pharmacology test (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ER staff, expires every 3 years)
    • Color blindness test (one-time)
    • Skills checklist (annual)

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift.
  • Signed facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgment.
  • Photo for badge: professional headshot on plain background, no head coverings or informal poses.
  • Omnicell form signed by all nursing staff.
  • Pneumococcal declination form if declining vaccine.
