Summary
Registered Nurse providing safe, competent, quality care to critically ill patients in a Surgical and Medical Intensive Care Unit. Care is delivered using evidence-based practice, nursing theory, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to develop and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing model and allocate resources effectively.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Bedside shift report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to improve patient perception of care.
- Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to improvement.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
- Implement process improvement and evidence-based strategies.
- Participate in peer and institutional reviews.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards per institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice to support quality and performance initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Practice cost-effective patient care resource management.
- Document accurately in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Requirements
- Licensure: NYS Registered Nurse License
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- Minimum 2 years ICU Med-Surg experience
- Prior travel experience required for travel positions (1 year travel experience)
- Preferred: EPIC electronic health record experience
- Unit Details:
- Average census: 17 patients
- 24 beds in unit
- Staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, weekends required
Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)
