Registered Nurse (RN) - Surgical Acute

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Tower 8 - Trauma, Orthopedics, Surgical
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum)


Job Description

  • Work on a 30-bed unit specializing in trauma, ortho, surgical patients, including a large volume of transplant and Whipple procedures.
  • Patient types include post-op transplant day 1, Whipples, spine, ortho joints, and trauma cases.
  • Teaching hospital environment; nurses may have nursing students.
  • 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday requirements (approximately 3 weekend shifts per 4 weeks; holidays based on unit coverage).
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5.
  • Charge Nurse role is non-patient care.
  • Floating assignments may include Observation, VMU, T6, T5, 6N, 5N MedSurg, and Telemetry units.
  • Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts.
  • EMR system: Cerner.
  • Telemetry equipment: Phillips.
  • Ventilators: BiPAP, CPAP.
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7.
  • Pharmacy available 24/7.
  • IV Team support available (SWAT RN).

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Arizona.
  • Minimum 2 years of core specialty experience in surgical acute care with Level 1 trauma experience.
  • BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required.
  • Minimum 2 years telemetry experience.
  • Experience with Cerner EMR required.
  • Must pass a Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (maximum 2 attempts).
  • Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (exceptions apply for some units).
  • No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed.
  • Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
  • Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for travel.
  • Prior travel experience is required for certain specialties (ED, Neuro ICU), but not explicitly stated for this role.
  • Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team.
