Overview
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour nights
- Hours per week: 36
- Local placements accepted: Yes, within a 50-mile radius
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS (AHA)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Negative drug screen for all panels
- Requested time off must be submitted
- Last four digits of SSN
- Clinician’s middle initial
Preferred Qualifications
- Level 3/4 ICU experience
- Micro preemie care experience
Unit Details
- NICU, Level 3
- 60 total private rooms, with capability to expand to 65 patients
- 5 twin rooms
- 40 designated NICU rooms
- 20 intermediate beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1-3 in NICU; 1:3-4 in NIC
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate drips per orders
- Common titratable/set-rate drips include Fentanyl, Morphine, and Precedex
- Care for patients as young as 22 weeks gestation and up
- Common patient types include abdominal defects, pre-cardiac repair, PPHN, CDH, and other genetic defects
Unit Support and Workflow
- Charge RN in NICU and NIC; charge nurse takes assignments only if staffing gaps
- Free transport RN 24/7
- PCTs are used
- Neonatologist in house 24/7
- 2-3 APNs 24/7
- Resident/Fellow coverage also available
- Patients are monitored; no Tele
- Phillips monitors

- Conventional vents
- Oscillator ventilator
- JET ventilator
- CPAP
- Nasal IMV
- Heated high flow
- Tracheostomy
Scheduling and Coverage
- Self-scheduling allowed
- Block scheduling allowed
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend for day shift
- Night weekend coverage depends on facility needs
- Holiday coverage as needed
- No current call requirement
Floating
- Travelers are first to float
- May float to PICU, PIC, Peds, Nursery, sitter, BHM, and adult world
Dress Code
- No specific scrub color requirement
- No fake nails, nail polish, or jewelry/watches
Orientation
- 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
- 1 day in NIC and 1 day in NICU
