Surgical Tech - Surgery/OR CST

Location: Medford, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Scrub multiple surgical specialties including Neurosurgery (spine and crani), Gynecology, ENT (Transsphenoidal experience a plus), Vascular (peripheral vascular, carotid endarterectomy, port placement, open AAA, Aorto BiFem; endovascular AAA experience a plus), General Surgery, Urology (Siemens imaging table, Stryker, Olympus scopes), Orthopedics (trauma, ORIF, arthroscopy, total joints including hip, knee, ankle, TFN, hemi-hips, DHS), and occasional C-Section emergency assistance.
  • Use of advanced surgical equipment such as BioMet, DePuy, Synthes, Medtronic, Nuvasive instrumentation, DaVinci robot (experience a plus), Stealth Navigation for Neuro and ENT, and Neuro/ENT microscopes.
  • Work in a unit with 15 OR suites and a typical team ratio of 2.5:1 (RN, scrub tech or RN, and break relief).
  • Dress code: OR provided scrubs.

Schedule & Call

  • Day shift: 3 shifts per week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), 12 hours per shift (06:30–19:00), totaling 36 hours per week.
  • Call required: approximately 50 hours per month of standby call with a 15-minute response time to back up 24/7 scheduled staff.
  • Call is not required during the first several weeks of orientation for comfort and adjustment.

Orientation & Policies

  • 12 hours of non-billable orientation during the first work week.
  • Orientation typically lasts one week with current staff.
  • Client enforces a 50-mile radius restriction and does not accept local candidates.
  • Call-off/cancellation allowed up to 24 hours per 13-week contract.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification via NBSTSA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a multi-OR facility preferred.
  • Experience in general surgery and specialties including Total Joint Orthopedics, Vascular, and Neurosurgery.

Licensure

  • CST certification required.
  • Non-Oregon licensed RNs may be eligible for a 90-day temporary license if permanent license is not posted before assignment start (note: applies to RNs, but relevant for understanding licensure flexibility).

Additional Notes

  • No floating to other units/departments.
  • Equipment and technology used include advanced surgical navigation and robotic systems.

This position is suited for experienced Surgical Technologists comfortable with a variety of surgical specialties and advanced OR technology, able to work extended day shifts with standby call responsibilities.

Pros

The radiation therapy staff is super friendly. The traveler can expect to spend most of their time on the TOMO machine. Could be either a pro or a con depending on the traveler. Area is beautiful and great for exploring and hiking.
