Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work hours: 1700 - 0500 with every 3rd weekend required
  • Hospital ER with 37 staffed beds, 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Level III trauma center, Stroke and STEMI certified
  • Adult and pediatric combined ER
  • May be required to float to a nearby free-standing 14-bed ER (8 miles away), but no mid-shift floating
  • Must have 2 years of ER experience
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required
  • COVID and Flu vaccination required (exemptions considered with documentation and approval)

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Iowa
  • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
  • Must be able to work every 3rd weekend

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid government-issued ID (passport, driver’s license, or state ID)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year county checks, national federal, USA criminal search (if applicable), social security trace, FACIS III, OFAC, OIG/EPLS, National Sex Offender Search, SAM
  • Education verification and diploma/transcript verification
  • Employment verification covering last 7 years with no gaps over 30 days
  • Two supervisory references required (one within last year, second within last 2 years)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams with minimum 80% pass rate, including:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (required for ER nurses)
    • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) updated annually
  • Mandatory Reporter Certification for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse (Iowa state requirement)
  • SING background check (Iowa-specific) within 30 days of start

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Annual physical exam or statement of health signed by MD, DO, NP, ARNP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (3M-N95 mask sizes specified)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (QuantiFERON gold or TSpot within 90 days)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR vaccines or positive titers)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or declination form
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually
  • COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not mandatory as of 7/7/2025

  • Modules for orientation and safety must be completed as part of compliance
  • Candidate must sign facility-specific memorandums and complete exemption forms if applicable
