Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a women's hospital with labor and delivery and postpartum units.
  • Float between postpartum and labor & delivery (L&D).
  • Handle approximately 300 deliveries per month in a large teaching facility.
  • Typical patient care includes antepartum, labor & delivery, postpartum, and OR/PACU support.
  • Level III Perinatal Center with capability to manage high-risk maternal and neonatal emergencies as well as low-intervention births.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3.
  • No on-call requirements.
  • Weekend shifts: 4 per 4-week schedule.
  • Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan.
  • Minimum 2 years of labor and delivery nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Flu vaccination mandatory for the 2025-26 season (no exemptions allowed; egg-free vaccine available for allergies).
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (N95 or equivalent masks accepted).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive TB, must have clear chest X-ray within 5 years and complete annual TB questionnaire.
  • Immunity or vaccination proof required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)

Documentation and Background Checks

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • E-Verify or attestation required.
  • 7-year background check within 30 days of start, including sex offender and nationwide checks; must be renewed annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Two recent professional references required from managers or supervisors (charge nurse references not accepted).
  • Employment application required.

Orientation and Facility Requirements

  • Orientation pay provided for first week (up to 36 hours).
  • Facility-specific documents and agreements must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including confidentiality, code of conduct, conflict of interest, sexual harassment policies, and completion of required training modules.
  • Pass/fail EKG competency test during orientation; study materials provided beforehand.
  • ID proofing process required before start.
  • Badge and pager return policies enforced; failure to comply may result in fees.

  • Nurses should be comfortable working both labor & delivery and postpartum units.
  • The hospital performs over 4,500 deliveries annually, including high-risk cases.
  • This is a night shift position with a 36-hour workweek.

This position is ideal for experienced labor and delivery nurses with prior travel assignments in large teaching hospitals who hold the required certifications and meet all health and compliance standards.
