Cath Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Christiansburg, Virginia

Position Overview

• Role: Registered Nurse specializing in Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab)
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Location: Christiansburg, Virginia
• Shift Options:

  • 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
  • 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
• Average caseload: Approximately 4 adult patients per day
• Common patient diagnoses: Coronary artery disease, valve disorders, heart failure

Scheduling & On-Call Requirements

• On-call duty: 10-12 days per month, including weekends
• Must be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes when called
• Holiday work/call: Required to work or take call for one holiday per 13-week contract (rotational basis)
• Call-off policy: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• First-time travelers and local candidates are not accepted

Required Qualifications

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid Registered Nurse license in Virginia
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association

Experience & Education

• Minimum of 1 year of recent Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last year
• At least one completed travel nursing assignment
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License or State ID with an address more than 100 miles from the facility (required within 48 hours of signing)
• E-Verify or attestation
• Background check covering 7 years of residence/employment history (must be current within 1 year)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education verification of highest earned degree
• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
• Fit test for respirator masks within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Flu vaccination documentation or signed declination form for flu season masking policy
• Professional photo for badge (no selfies or filters, plain background)
• Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
• Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment (not required for inpatient RNs)

References & History

• Two clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
• Completed employment application/resume
• Annual skills checklist update required

Additional Notes

• Must submit all scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) with application
• Must be able to comply with facility radius rules (no locals accepted)
• Prior travel experience is required (first-time travelers not accepted)

This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab RNs with strong procedural skills and the ability to manage on-call responsibilities in a fast-paced cardiac care environment.
