Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Patient Ratios: Based on acuity
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not applicable
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility and department needs

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Health Documents:
    • Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
    • Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if prior positive
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
    • Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency exam and color blindness test required prior to start
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)

Orientation and Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4-6 hours for this location
  • First Day Instructions: Provided after clearance; includes OurDay platform access for uploading vaccine documentation
  • Badge Photo: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses; must be submitted by Wednesday before start
  • Parking: No cost
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Work Conditions and Miscellaneous

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams from June through November; peak activity in August and September

This position is ideal for ER nurses with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working night shifts and floating within similar units. Strong Epic EHR skills and required certifications are essential.
