OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Surgical Tech position with day shift (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM) and possible night shift rotation (5:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
  • Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours per shift (40 hours/week)
  • Weeknight call required: 1-2 nights per week on average
  • Weekend call required: approximately every 4-5 weekends
  • No block scheduling available
  • High volume: 30 rooms, 60-80 cases per day
  • Possible off-shifting 1-3 shifts per 4-week period, but often none

Surgical Specialties & Procedures

  • Neurosurgery: anterior cervical fusion, cervical fusion, craniotomy, VP shunt insertion, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, ALIF, XLIF, kyphoplasty
  • ENT: endoscopic sinus procedures, septoplasty/rhinoplasty, mastoidectomy/tympanoplasty/stapedectomy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy
  • Laparoscopic assisted cases
  • Required experience with General Surgery, Endoscopic/Laparoscopic, Bariatrics
  • Highly preferred experience with Oncology, Orthopedics, and DaVinci robotic surgery

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
  • Surgical Technologist experience
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • Must be located more than 100 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Bi-weekly orientation sessions available
  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check within 30 days of start and updated annually, including multi-county and nationwide checks
  • SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification required
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry checks required
  • Primary source license verification required prior to start
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA)
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable per unit description
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blind testing required
  • Annual skills checklist required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year, updated annually (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+)
  • Tdap/Tetanus vaccine within last 10 years
  • Annual TB screening: either annual PPD for 2 consecutive years or 2-step PPD/Qgold/TSPOT within 1 year; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if history of positive PPD
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required for low/equivocal titers
  • Hepatitis B titer required; declination accepted if non-reactive
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required for low/equivocal titers
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (urine panel including multiple substances)
  • Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required
  • COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemption or declination accepted
  • Baseline eye exam (Snellen) required within 30 days of start for OR staff

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references from work within the past 2 years (one must be from most recent employer if not a current traveler)
  • Must comply with state-specific registry and background checks within 30 days of start
  • Must follow facility policies regarding call-back and extended shifts pay

Notes

  • Scrubs provided by the facility
  • Travelers are not paid the same as core staff and have different call-back pay policies
  • This is a high-acuity, high-volume surgical environment requiring flexibility and experience across multiple surgical specialties

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Surgical Techs with prior travel assignments who are comfortable with a demanding surgical caseload and call responsibilities.
