Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 - 07:00)
Hours per week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Must have critical care experience within the last 12 months.
- Pediatric experience preferred but not required; training in pediatrics is available.
- Required to work all scheduled shifts; scheduling requests outside approved time off (RTO) cannot be accommodated.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Patient population includes adult trauma and burn patients, medically and neurologically complicated cases, tracheostomy patients, spinal cord injury, and complex sleep-disordered breathing.
- Units served: Burn ICU (BPICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Medical ICU (MICU), Neuroscience ICU (NSICU), and a busy Emergency Department with ECLS transfers.
- No floating outside scope of practice.
- Open to accommodating block schedules.
- Local candidates accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last 12 months
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience working with adult patients
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Critical care experience within the last 12 months
- Experience with adult trauma and burn patients
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start, including nationwide and state-specific searches.
- Education verification required if applicable.
- WA WATCH search required.
- Photo for badge must meet professional standards.
- Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be completed and signed.
- Two professional references required.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by facility but required by agency).
- Mask fit test within 12 months of start; can be completed onsite if needed.
- Required vaccinations or proof of immunity (titer or vaccination records) for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination)
- Varicella
- Influenza (seasonal vaccine or declination required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination for tracking purposes
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Drug screening within the past 12 months (agency requirement, not facility).
- Suicide prevention training required for nurses using a multi-state license working in Washington.
Additional Information
- Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma center with approximately 500 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Epic with hard stops.
- Scrub color: Any solid color scrubs allowed; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
- Parking available onsite and offsite with shuttle service (details provided separately).
- Orientation includes pass/fail competency exams (80% passing score required), including advanced dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for ICU and related units.
- Annual stroke education required for nurses working in neuro and ICU units.
- No on-call responsibilities.
- First-time travel therapists accepted.
