Job Opportunity: Home Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide and coordinate home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
- Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
- Average patient load: 5-8 patients per day.
- Types of visits: Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (5x8 hours).
- Weekend rotation: Approximately 1 weekend per month (varies by location and profession).
- On-call requirement: Approximately 1 weekend per month (varies by location and profession).
- Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from home clinic; average daily travel 40-50 miles, up to 100 miles per day. Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate (patient-to-patient travel reimbursed; commute to/from first and last patient is not).
- Dress code: Scrubs.
- Charting system: Proficiency required in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) used within the last 6 months; RNs must also be proficient in OASIS. Retraining required if last use was over 6 months ago.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (license must be in hand; pending licenses not accepted).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Home Health nursing, including experience within the last year.
- Hospice experience is preferred.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Proficient with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS documentation systems.
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Must complete a comprehensive background check including:
- 7-year residential/work/school history verification.
- State-specific criminal background checks and sex offender registry searches.
- Drug screening (10-panel).
- Fingerprinting as required by state regulations.
- Required health documentation:
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Proof of immunizations or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination.
- COVID-19 vaccination series or documented declination.
- Must review and sign various compliance, confidentiality, privacy, and policy documents prior to start.
- Must provide notarized state-specific release forms for background checks where applicable (e.g., Virginia State Police search).
- Two professional references required.
- Verification of at least two most recent employers or last 7 years of work history.
Work Environment & Notes
- Home visits with periodic office meetings.
- Coverage needed due to workload and hiring/training of new RNs.
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
- Contract assignments typically 13 weeks in length.
- Some positions may have alternative shift schedules (e.g., 4x10s Friday-Monday), but most are standard 5x8 Monday-Friday.
- Must be comfortable working independently in a home health setting.
