Job Opportunity: RN Step Down
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Job Description
- Work on a unit with the greatest need, which may be Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg), or Telemetry (Tele) based on your skills.
- Must have 2 years of experience in PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry acute care.
- Candidates with experience as Med-Surg or Stepdown RN are accepted (credentialing is the same for both).
- Must be able to float onsite within your skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system is required.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license valid in Wisconsin (Nursys verification required within 30 days prior to start).
- Minimum 2 years of relevant specialty experience (PCU / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care).
- BLS certification (AHA required).
- ACLS certification (AHA required).
- Successful completion of specialty competency exams including:
- Specialty exam with minimum 80% passing score (updated every 3 years).
- EKG exam with minimum 80% passing score (updated every 3 years).
- Core competencies exam covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other topics (updated every 3 years).
- Epic test-out and training checklist with signed attestation.
- Completion of required onboarding education and attestations.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Proof of immunizations or immunity for:
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted).
- Varicella (2 vaccines, serological evidence, or verified history; no declinations accepted).
- Tdap (valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted).
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza vaccine is optional; if declined during flu season, mask wearing is required.
- Tuberculosis screening:
- 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes.
- If positive, negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire.
- Annual fit test for N95 respirators (preferred to be completed prior to start).
- Annual 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.
Documentation and Verification Requirements
- Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references.
- Signed assignment agreement and confirmation of assignment on agency letterhead.
- Criminal background check including SSN trace, OIG search, national sex offender registry, and other required screenings within 90 days prior to start.
- Employment verification for the past 7 years.
- Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days prior to start.
- Driver’s license or state ID (must be current and match address on file).
- Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
- Color vision test completed prior to start and updated every 3 years.
Additional Notes
- Onsite onboarding and training required.
- Must be able to complete all required assessments and documentation prior to or at the start of the assignment.
- Floating to other units or nearby sites may be required based on staffing needs.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with acute care skills in PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry who are comfortable working varied units and shifts and meeting comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
