Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Day (Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
Hours: 40 hours per week (5 days x 8 hours)
Occasional Saturdays may be required
Job Summary
The Pathologist Assistant provides anatomic pathology services under the supervision of a Pathologist. Responsibilities include preparation and dissection of human surgical specimens, assisting with frozen section evaluations, performing gross examinations, cryotomy and staining of specimens for intraoperative evaluation, and conducting human postmortem examinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation, gross description, and dissection of human tissue surgical specimens, including large cancer cases (not limited to biopsies)
- Assisting with frozen section evaluation and intraoperative specimen processing
- Performing gross examination and selection of tissue
- Cryotomy and staining of specimens for Pathologist evaluation
- Preparation and performance of human postmortem examinations
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a Pathology Assistance Training Program
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pathology Assistant, including experience within the last year
- Certification as a Pathologist Assistant by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM
- Occasional Saturdays may be required
