Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Night (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), every other weekend
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Accountable for the care of a group of patients in a Progressive Care Unit.
- Focus on safe, effective patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
- Responsible for supervising licensed and non-licensed staff.
- Applies the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Provides patient and family education, comfort, and satisfaction.
- Mentors and precepts staff members.
- Participates in quality, safety, and service improvement efforts and complies with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments, making sound independent decisions.
- Develop, prioritize, implement, and revise individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
- Facilitate and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and foster teamwork.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in Practice Governance and implement evidence-based practice changes.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an inpatient setting with acute care experience
- Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Experience precepting staff members
