Description

Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Night (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), every other weekend
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Accountable for the care of a group of patients in a Progressive Care Unit.
  • Focus on safe, effective patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
  • Responsible for supervising licensed and non-licensed staff.
  • Applies the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Provides patient and family education, comfort, and satisfaction.
  • Mentors and precepts staff members.
  • Participates in quality, safety, and service improvement efforts and complies with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments and reassessments, making sound independent decisions.
  • Develop, prioritize, implement, and revise individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
  • Facilitate and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and foster teamwork.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in Practice Governance and implement evidence-based practice changes.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kentucky
  • 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
