Job Opportunity: Med/Tele/PCU RN

Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Department: Med/Tele RN
  • Unit Size: 32 beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Day: 1:4-5
    • Night: occasional 5-6
    • PCU overflow: 1:3
  • Patient Types: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, alcohol-related cases, COVID (BiPAP), general surgical with heart history, pneumonia (COVID), acute on chronic conditions, influenza, sepsis.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Must have PCU experience and be able to read and interpret cardiac strips.
  • Telemetry/cardiac RN experience required.
  • Epic experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • First-time travelers are acceptable.
  • RN must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (no Levophed).
  • RN to read and interpret telemetry strips independently.

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Staffing & Support

  • Charge Nurse on each shift who occasionally takes a light patient load (2-3 patients).
  • Patient Care Techs/Nurse Aides present with a goal ratio of 1:10.
  • Respiratory Therapy equipment includes BiPAP, trachs, Airvo; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage these devices.
  • Tele/Monitor Techs present with portable and room monitors, plus a tech at the nurse’s station.

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
  • Shift rotation: 7-7 rotation will not occur more than once weekly; blocked schedules may be considered.
  • Weekend and holiday work: every other weekend and holiday.
  • Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of the first week; independent by Sunday.
  • Floating: Required to float to PCU, Medical-Surgical, and some ER holds/boarding as needed.

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed.
  • More of a telemetry/cardiac-focused unit.
  • Radius rule: Candidates must be outside a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity).
  • Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start. No additional RTO extensions allowed.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Tele/PCU RNs comfortable with cardiac patient care, telemetry monitoring, and titrating drips in a fast-paced environment.
