Position Details

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 16
• Patient Ratios: Typically 2:1 or 1:1; occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity
• Staffing: RNs only (no unit clerks or patient care techs)
• Equipment: Ventilators, Telemetry, Baxter IV Pumps, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, Hypothermia equipment
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Schedule: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, alternating weekends
• Floating Policy: Travelers float to all areas within the unit
• Dress Code: All navy or navy and white scrubs only; no pullovers or hoodies; no green scrubs except when uniform is soiled at work

Required Skills and Experience

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (ICU experience required)
• Certifications Required:

  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIH Certification
  • Registered Nurse License
• Preferred Certifications: CCRN recommended; IABP, Impella, CRRT appreciated but not required

Clinical Skills and Competencies

• Titration of vesicant medications
• Familiarity with pressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Experience with ventilators and tracheostomies
• Telemetry interpretation
• Understanding of hemodynamics and pulmonary artery (PA) catheter setup and interpretation
• Transvenous pacing
• Cardioversion
• Familiarity with chest tube insertions and maintenance

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Cardioversion
• Central line insertion
• Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
• Bronchoscopy
• Chest tube insertions
• Pericardiocentesis
• Thoracentesis

Additional Information

• No prior travel experience required
• Advanced skills such as IABP, Impella, and CRRT are desirable but not mandatory
• Unit emphasizes high acuity cardiac care with advanced technology and experienced staff
