Unit Information

• Unit: Transplant/Stepdown (PCU)
• Number of Beds: 34
• Staffing: Approximately 50 staff members
• Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 3-4 patients
• Typical Shift Staffing:

  • Day Shift example: 1 Charge RN, 3 RNs, 2 CNAs, 1-3 sitters
  • Night Shift similar to day shift
• Equipment Used:

  • Bladder scanner
  • Mobilabs for lab draws
  • EKG machine
  • AccuVein
  • Virtual Sitter Cameras
  • Workstations on Wheels (W.O.Ws)
  • Hoyer Lift, Sara Stedy Lift, Sit to Stand Lift
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Required Skills and Experience

• Med/Surg and Telemetry experience
• Experience caring for patients on Heparin drips and PCA (patient-controlled analgesia)
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIH Certification
• Must hold a valid Registered Nurse License

Preferred Skills

• Stepdown/PCU experience
• Experience with solid organ transplant patients (kidney, liver, or pancreas)

Typical Procedures Performed

• Wound and drain care including wound vac, chest tube, and Jackson-Pratt (JP) drains
