Job Opportunity: Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Radiation Oncology
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (5x8 hours)
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
- On-Call: Not required
- Weekend/Holiday Work: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week
- First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
Job Responsibilities
- Manage radiation oncology cases collaboratively with the care team.
- Port accessing on pediatric cases is strongly preferred.
- Provide Stage 2 recovery care for pediatric anesthesia patients.
- Direct patient flow in the clinic area.
- Promote patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
- Educate patients and families on illness management, post-treatment care, and medication administration.
- Participate in patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Use critical nursing skills to assess physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
- Assess patient preferences and barriers, including emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri (pending licenses accepted).
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year required.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID).
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree.
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri).
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive drug panel.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with specific timing requirements).
- Tdap vaccine or declination.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirator) with annual renewal.
- Facility-specific documents including:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with minimum 80% score)
- Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies acknowledgment
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, recent within 6 months)
- Unit-specific competency exams including oncology competency and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (updated annually).
- Skills checklist specific to oncology/outpatient oncology/infusion center within 1 year of start.
- Employment application and two professional references (supervisors preferred within last year).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to comply with a 1-request restriction on time off (RTO).
- Parking fees apply for day shifts; no charge for night shifts (not applicable here).
- Orientation modules are not required for Radiation Oncology nursing staff.
- Prior travel experience is not required, but first-time travelers are not accepted for this role.
