Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Monday to Thursday nights, 18:45 to 05:15 (3x12 hour shifts)
- Weekend Requirement: Must work every Saturday or Sunday (third shift variable)
- Guaranteed Hours: Up to 36 hours per week; OR nurses on 12-hour shifts guaranteed 40 hours weekly (includes additional 4 hours for breaks/lunch coverage)
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must be willing to travel 100+ miles)
- Start Date: ASAP
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alaska
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including trauma experience
- OR nursing experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

- Acute Care Hospital with 152 staffed beds
- Magnet designated facility
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Navy (L&D/OR scrubs provided)
- Free parking available in nearby parking structure
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Vaccinations & Immunizations:
- COVID-19 vaccine required (initial series or J&J dose; medical exemptions accepted with doctor’s letter; no declinations/religious exemptions)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap adult dose required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines; booster allowed if low titer)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or facility-specific declination required; standard declination not accepted)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine highly preferred; required or medical exemption with verifiable diagnosis during flu season
- Health Screenings:
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam (annual renewal)
- Fit mask test with approved masks within 1 year (must be completed prior to arrival)
- Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or PPD) within 1 year; if positive, chest X-ray within 5 years required
- Annual TB questionnaire regardless of TB result
- Specialty Exams for OR:
- Snellen eye exam (no online color-blind test; Ishihara test required)
Onboarding & Documentation
- Must complete facility-specific pre-boarding and non-employee onboarding tasks online at least 10 days prior to start
- Required to complete and sign various facility forms including confidentiality, badge, background release, and addendum forms
- Background check required within 90 days of start (includes SS trace, county searches for last 7 years)
- References: 2 clinical references required
- Clinical skills checklist required
- Competency exams required (medication/pharmacology, general competency)
Additional Notes
- No contract changes allowed after signing (including additional RTO)
- AVADE (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required within 12 months of start; annual renewal required
- Facility offers onsite AVADE course at no cost if needed
- Facility-specific documents and healthstream modules must be completed as part of orientation
- Must be prepared to work in a robotic surgery environment with specialized equipment
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with robotic surgery skills seeking a travel contract in Alaska with a night shift schedule and weekend availability.

Anchorage is a unique city surrounded by 5,000-foot-high peaks in the south-central part of Alaska along the Cook Inlet, where abundant salmon and whales swim through. It's filled with cultural sites, including many museums and the Alaska Native Heritage Center, which offers stage performances and displays traditional crafts and replicas of dwellings from indigenous groups in the area.
