Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Burlington, Vermont
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ER RN)
- Shift: Rotating Day/Night shifts
- Schedule: Minimum every other weekend required; schedule may be adjusted to meet unit and patient care needs
- Flexibility with schedule is essential
- Facility is a large, teaching hospital
- EPIC electronic medical record experience required within the past 2 years (non-negotiable)
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Vermont
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in Emergency Department
- Prior travel experience required unless candidate has worked in larger (500+ bed) teaching facilities and multiple ERs
- Certifications (must be current and AHA approved):
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – must be completed or proof of class prior to start
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) – required prior to start
- Preferred certifications: CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse), ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course), MOAB, Pro Act or other de-escalation training such as CPS
Additional Requirements & Information
- Orientation offered bi-weekly on Mondays
- No block scheduling allowed
- Complete and detailed work history required, including bed count, EMR, and facility type
- Reliable personal transportation required; public transportation is not accessible in the area
- Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification of highest degree
- Primary source verification of Vermont RN license within 30 days of start and upon expiration
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Color blindness testing
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- N95 Fit Test (annual) with approved mask types
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual updates)
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination if assigned to NY facility
- Drug testing as required (not annually for VT facilities)
- Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start
- Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent and background checks
- Various facility-specific documents and policies to review and complete prior to start (dress code, telephone usage, emergency contact, etc.)
References & Work History
- Two professional references from assignments within the last 3 years
- Verification of 2 years of most recent clinical work history
- Skills checklist within 12 months
- Employment application required
Notes
- Candidate must explain any employment gaps over 90 days
- COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work may be required
- Masking and social distancing policies must be followed on site
This position is ideal for experienced ER RNs with recent EPIC experience and flexibility in scheduling, seeking a 16-week travel assignment in a large teaching hospital environment.
