Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit Nights

Unit & Shift Details

• Unit: Step Down Unit (Nights)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend

  • Night shift weekends can be Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday depending on rotation
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
• Floating: Yes, within scope to lower acuity floors
• Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
• Local Candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
• Pending License: Accepted
• On-call: Not required

Experience & Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse
• Required Years of Experience: 2 years
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required
• Must have been at the bedside within the last 6 months
• First-time travelers: Not accepted

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for all nurses)
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, ENPC, TNCC, MAB, CPI) - verify with unit description

Clinical Skills & Special Requirements

• Experience with titration of vasopressors, sedation medication, insulin drips
• Management of trach vents, arterial lines, external pacemakers, chest tubes

Background Checks & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
• State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
• Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
• Tdap vaccine or declination required (expires every 10 years)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (two negative PPDs or equivalent)
• Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination required (with exceptions for certain units)
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

Facility-Specific Documents & Training

• HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education (annual)
• Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, Dress Code Policies acknowledgment required
• Orientation modules (~16 hours) required for all RNs and LVNs, with exceptions for returning travelers under certain conditions
• Badge photo and facility badge required

References & History

• Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
