Job Opportunity: Pharmacist Inpatient

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • Evening or overnight shifts only
    • Evening: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
    • Overnight: 8:30 PM – 7:30 AM (Monday – Thursday)
    • Overnight: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM (Friday – Sunday)
    • Schedule follows 7 nights on / 7 nights off rotation

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Hospital Pharmacist license in Virginia
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD
  • Minimum 1 year of inpatient hospital pharmacy experience within the last year
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • IV experience
  • Pain controlled analgesia experience
  • Experience with Epic

Prior Travel Experience

  • Travel experience preferred but not required

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history and federal exclusions
  • Primary source verification of state license
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year, updated annually (PAPR not allowed)
  • Immunizations and titers required within 10 years or as specified:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for certain units)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, annual TB testing required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually or approved exemption with mask-wearing
  • COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of 2 professional references
  • Completed employment application/resume
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Photo for badge (passport style, shoulders up, plain background) required before start
  • Fingerprinting required within first week of contract start (Virginia state requirement effective 1/1/2026)

Notes

  • Facility has zero tolerance for background check issues; any hits may result in cancellation
  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
  • Candidates must complete required facility-specific documents and acknowledgments prior to start
