Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR) with pediatric experience
- High acuity level in the OR setting
- Manager seeks candidates with strong pediatric experience and proficiency in OR procedures
- Shift requirements:
- Short call up to 3 times every six weeks
- Up to 4 off shifts every six weeks
- Up to 1 weekend shift and 1 weekend call every six weeks
- Holiday shift and call coverage as needed
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Massachusetts
- Pediatric nursing experience required (minimum 1 year recommended based on specialty and acuity)
- Proficiency working in the Operating Room environment
- Certifications (AHA or American Red Cross):
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required for all clinical positions
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required for cardiovascular and pediatric intensive care units if assignment extends beyond 13 weeks
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – required for pediatric units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – preferred for NICU assignments
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., CHEMO for oncology, EFM for Labor & Delivery)
Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with pediatric OR experience
- Years of Experience: At least 1 year pediatric nursing experience recommended
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Proof of name change if applicable
- Background checks: 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including multiple federal and state databases
- Massachusetts CORI release form required within 60 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- Professional certification verification within 30 days of start
- Health requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year, cleared to work with no restrictions
- Immunizations and testing including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with follow-up if positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (required annually)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption (preferred but not mandatory)
- Drug screening (9-panel) within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses)
- Respiratory safety clearance required for all travelers, with facility-specific fit testing completed onsite
- Two professional references from two of the last three employers required
- Employment application with 10-year work history and explanation for gaps over 30 days
Work Environment
- Acute care, high-acuity pediatric OR setting
- Magnet recognized facility with Level III/IV NICU and Level I Trauma designation
- Electronic charting system used (Cerner)
- Parking available with discounted rates and shuttle service; night shift parking free
