Travel Nurse Job Opportunity: Med Surg - Medical Specialty RN

Location: Fargo, North Dakota
Unit: 7CD - 32-bed inpatient Medical-Specialty Unit

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Specialty & Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical Nursing (Med Surg)
• Minimum 1 year recent nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds)
• Minimum 1 year med/surg experience in a busy, large hospital environment
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• EPIC electronic medical record experience required

Licensure & Certifications

• BLS certification (AHA required)
• North Dakota RN license or compact state RN license

Schedule & Shift Details

• 12-hour shifts, rotating day/night schedule
• Rotation includes every other weekend and holiday
• Shift rotation varies: may work 3 weeks days then 3 weeks nights or all days/nights depending on unit needs
• Travelers can self-schedule but must adhere to contract days off; shift trades encouraged to maintain unit balance
• Efforts made to minimize frequent day/night shift flipping

Patient Population & Unit Details

• Adult medical/surgical patients, including some behavioral health admits
• Private rooms with bathrooms and mobility aids (gait belts, walkers)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1 on days, 6:1 on nights
• Unit uses EMR Epic, telemetry, Philips monitors, bladder scanner, Accuvein, Omnicell

Floating Requirements

• Must be willing to float to all medical-surgical units across three campuses in Fargo
• Home unit 7CD can float to any med/surg unit within Fargo

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must badge in and out at the facility
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Cannot accept travelers living within 60 miles of the facility
• Prior employment with the facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying

Summary

This is a 13-week travel nurse assignment for a Med Surg RN with at least 1 year of recent experience in a large hospital setting, including trauma and EPIC experience. The role requires flexibility in shift rotation and floating across multiple units. BLS (AHA) and appropriate RN licensure are mandatory. The position involves caring for adult med/surg patients in a busy 32-bed unit with a focus on patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration.
