Position Details
- Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Unit Size: 12 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2 or 1:1 depending on patient acuity
- Weekend Requirement: Must work 2 weekend shifts per pay period; schedule may vary (e.g., Friday or Saturday nights)
- Holiday Requirement: Yes
- Call/Standby: Required, maximum 3 per 12 weeks
- Floating: Required as needed to ICU, PCU, MS, Tele units across both campuses
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Orientation: Unit/department-specific orientation provided
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses: Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
- Common procedures/skills: Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), fresh open heart surgery (OHS) experience from OR
- RN responsibilities include titrating drips such as Dexmedetomidine, Propofol, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Levofedrin, Insulin, Cardene
- Monitoring: RNs read cardiac rhythm strips; in-room monitors only (Nihon Khoden system)
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7 department-wide; equipment includes ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, HiFlow
- Intensivists are in-house
Required Certifications & Exams
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing (failure results in a 6-month disqualification from assignments in this region)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
- Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Experience with fresh open heart surgery (OHS) from the OR
- Ability to titrate drips including Dexmedetomidine, Propofol, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Levofedrin, Insulin, and Cardene
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Candidates must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with the specified health system within the past year (50-mile radius rule)
- Prescreen and auto-offer available if return-to-office date is less than 7 days and no holiday requests
- Charge nurse and house supervisor roles are staffed 24/7
- No nurse aides on the unit
- Floating may include ICU, PCU, MS, and Tele units on both campuses
- Electronic medical record system: Cerner
- Schedule includes every other weekend or variable weekend shifts at nursing leadership discretion
