Tower 18 (MedSurg/Tele) RN

Overview

• Location: Houston, Texas
• Contract length: 6 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week
• Unit has 20 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Floating: Must float to MedSurg/Tele acuity floors only

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS for floating purposes
• Proficient with IV starts and blood draws
• Strong general medicine/internal medicine experience
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must pass a tele competency exam/EKG exam
• Must be experienced with basic EKG and interpret strips
• Must perform cardiac drips per floating requirement

Preferred Qualifications

• Charge experience
• Epic experience

Unit Details

• MedSurg/Tele floor with lower-acuity general medicine/internal medicine patients
• Common patient types include cellulitis, abdominal pain, inpatient rehab/SNF transition patients waiting for insurance authorization, surgical overflow, direct admits, transplant workups, behavioral patients, and infections
• No tele on the floor, but tele competency is required for floating
• Common drips: heparin, lasix
• Charge nurse every shift
• Nurse aides available
• Techs can do lab draws and EKGs
• RT is shared between floors
• May see home CPAPs and breathing treatments

Schedule and Orientation

• Every other weekend required
• Holidays rotated with permanent staff
• No call or standby requirement
• Orientation includes 2 days in classroom and 2 shifts on the floor

Additional Notes

• Navy scrubs required
• Parking is paid
