Registered Nurse – Maternity Services Labor & Delivery

Job Description

• Provide care in Labor & Delivery, newborn nursery, and postpartum units.
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, vacuum or forceps-assisted deliveries, external cephalic version, and cesarean deliveries.
• Care for postpartum patients and newborns, including unstable infants.
• Perform newborn assessments and record newborn hearing screens.

Work Schedule

• 36 hours per week with some weekends and holidays.
• Shifts:

  • Day: 06:30 – 19:00
  • Night: 18:30 – 07:00
• Will work alongside a second experienced labor nurse; never alone.

Unit Details

• Labor and Delivery: 2 triage rooms, 3 labor rooms, 2 pre-op/post-op rooms.
• Postpartum: 8 beds.
• NICU feeder-growers: 8 beds.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Labor: 1:1
  • Antepartum: 1:3
  • Postpartum couplets: 1:3
  • NICU feeder-growers: 1:3

Equipment Used

• Electronic Fetal Monitoring / Central Monitoring
• Ultrasound (portable for provider use)
• Giraffe and Panda Infant Warmers
• Plum IV pumps
• Pneumatic leg pumps

Orientation & Training

• 2-3 shifts of orientation before working independently.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year.
• Postpartum nursing experience.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Additional Information

• Must be able and willing to assist with NICU feeder-growers if experienced.
• Dress code: hospital-provided scrubs.
• Candidate should ideally live within 50 miles of the location.
• Recent EPIC experience is preferred but not mandatory.
