Registered Nurse (RN) – Central Registry Float

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on general medical and surgical units caring for a diverse patient population with diagnoses including:

  • Chronic illnesses: COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease
  • GI issues: pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases
  • Infections: pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. difficile
  • Neurological issues: stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries
  • Mental health disorders: depression, anxiety, substance abuse
• Care for patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation)
• Perform assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilize electronic health records (Epic)
• Manage equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, heparin and insulin drips, IV therapy, telemetry monitoring, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, and SCDs for VTE prevention

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• Approximately 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
• Patient ratios typically 1:5-6
• Floating to other medical units as needed

Orientation & Training

• Jump Start orientation program:

  • 1 day general hospital orientation
  • Approximately 5 days nursing orientation including Epic training

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary nursing experience
• At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds)
• Valid Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20)
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association

• Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
• Must be able to float to other medical units as needed

This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with a variety of patient populations and procedures, who are flexible to float within medical units and work a consistent 12-hour shift schedule including weekends.
