Registered Nurse - Nephrology

Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in a 24-bed Nephrology unit, an extension of the Med/Surg units.
  • Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
  • Weekend requirement: At least 2 weekend shifts per month
  • No call requirements
  • Patient population: Geriatric and adults
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 to 1:6
  • Electronic Health Record system: Cerner

Unit & Facility Highlights

  • Level III trauma center with medical, surgical, rehabilitation, childbirth, cancer, nephrology, pediatric, behavioral health, day surgery, imaging, and lab services.
  • Facility uses equipment such as vital signs machines, bladder scanners, lifts, thermal imaging, and IV pumps/tubes.
  • Located in a scenic area with outdoor recreational opportunities including hiking, kayaking, and access to national parks.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 1 year of Nephrology experience within the last year
  • Med/Surg experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nephrology experience preferred but not required.
  • Charge nurse experience preferred but not required.
  • Observation Unit experience is a plus.

Additional Information

  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Common diagnoses/treatments include ESRD, Peritoneal Dialysis, and Hemodialysis.
  • Submittal requirements include resume, submission form, area-specific competency exam, skills checklist, and screening questions.

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
