Job Description

  • Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients using the nursing process.
  • Perform unit-specific responsibilities within the scope of service.
  • Implement procedures and theories related to digestive health nursing.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments upon admission and develop plans of care based on patient and family needs.
  • Implement and modify plans of care through continuous evaluation.
  • Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify personal learning needs and pursue professional development.
  • Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department-Specific Functions

  • Prepare patients for digestive health procedures.
  • Complete assessments, review health history, start IVs, and provide patient education.
  • Monitor and sedate patients during procedures.
  • Care for patients in both phase 1 and phase 2 recovery.
  • Assist anesthesia providers (CRNA) during cases requiring anesthesia.
  • Supervise and evaluate patient care directly and through delegation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a GI Lab, including experience within the last year.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
