Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)
Location
- Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM – 11:00 PM)
- Rotating weekends required
- On-call: Up to 2 call shifts per month (7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM on weekends)
- Floating within scope between like units/sister facilities may be required

- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- Main Operating Room with 21 OR suites covering Trauma, Transplant, Ortho, Neuro, ENT, GU-GYN, Robotics
- Busy, dynamic, nurse-driven environment with cutting-edge technology
Required Experience & Skills
- Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NBSTSA certification
Certifications & Licenses
- NBSTSA certification required (NCCT not accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or ARC)
- Radiation badge required (must be provided by agency)
- South Carolina state license verification required (active, unencumbered)
- Nursys verification required for RNs/LPNs if applicable
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) but not specified for this role
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Completed and accurate I-9 form with E-Verify attestation
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including criminal and sex offender registry checks
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers search
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)
- Color blindness test prior to start
- Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, OR competency)
- Physical exam updated annually attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit mask test documentation (N95 O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+)
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive history
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Additional Requirements
- Radiation badge process must be completed before starting patient care; badge may take 5-7 days to arrive
- Passport-style photo for badge required before start
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and training prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June–November), especially August and September
- Local radius: 60 miles; local candidates considered case-by-case

- Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
- Block scheduling requests require manager approval and depend on unit needs
- Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage use; additional fees may apply for other parking locations
