Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Patient Ratio: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-Call: Yes, as needed for low census
• Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Med Surg nursing experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Rapid Response teams
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Local Candidates: Not accepted (must be willing to travel)
• Schedule Flexibility: Block schedule accommodation may be requested but is not guaranteed
• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Travel Radius: Up to 60 miles from assignment location

Compliance & Documentation

• Background Checks:

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Licensure Verification:

  • Primary source verification of SC RN license required
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Temporary “walk-through” licensure process available for eligible candidates without SC license (not for those with background issues)
• Health Requirements:

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates confirming ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations or titers required for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination), Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive history
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Annual flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but highly preferred; vaccination records or declination form must be uploaded
  • Respirator clearance via RespSafety questionnaire required annually for patient-facing staff
• References & Work History:

  • Two clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start required
  • Employment application/resume required
• Competency Exams: Medication and other competency exams as applicable

Orientation & Facility Specifics

• Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours for this location
• Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required (frontal view, shoulders up, solid light background)
• Acknowledgments & Agreements: Candidates must review and sign facility-specific documents including assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and HIPAA confidentiality agreement prior to start
• Parking: Free parking available

Important Notes

• Hurricane Season: From June through November, all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams. Candidates should avoid confirming new or extension assignments during this period if this is a concern. Peak months are August and September.
• Radiation Badge: Not required for this position.
