Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Work Details

• Unit: Mother/Baby & Postpartum with float to Labor & Delivery (L&D)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4 in Mother/Baby
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• On-call requirement: 36 hours every 6 weeks
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month
• Holiday time off requests during specified holidays will not be accommodated

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC, actual certificate required, no screenshots/photos
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC, actual certificate required
• AWHONN Intermediate (for Electronic Fetal Monitoring) or NCC certification for L&D, OBGYN, Mother-Baby units
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) – actual downloaded certification required
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – actual certificate required
• Additional preferred certifications (not required for this unit): PALS, CHEMO, OCN, TNCC, CPI

Required Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
• Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or equivalent within 12 months)
• Competency Exam (annual update required)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (not required for Mother-Baby/Postpartum)
• Core Competency Exams Part I, II, and III (annual update required, minimum 80% pass rate)

Licensure & Experience

• Specialty: Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
• Required years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume standard for Labor and Delivery RN roles (typically 1+ years)
• License: Valid Tennessee RN license (must be current and verifiable within 30 days of start)
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Health & Background Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA confirming fitness for duty
• Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; chest x-ray if prior positive TB
• Immunizations/vaccinations:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B – vaccine series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine required for starts between Sept 1 and April 1 (no declinations accepted; exemptions only for medical/religious reasons)
• Drug screening within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, fentanyl, opiates, etc.) with MRO signature
• Background check within 45 days of start, including 7-year SSN trace, alias verification, sex offender registries, criminal searches, and state abuse registry
• Two supervisory references from the past 3 years
• Employment application with 7-year work history, no unexplained gaps over 30 days

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current)
• Passport-style photo with solid background for badge (no filters or facial piercings)
• Utility bill or lease/mortgage statement with candidate’s name and address at least 75 miles from contracted facility
• Completion of onboarding attestation and review of job description prior to start
• Skills checklist specific to unit within the last year, updated annually

• Travelers requesting time off during holidays will not be accommodated; holiday time off requests must be addressed onsite with management
• Actual certificates must be uploaded; screenshots or photos are not accepted
• Certifications must not expire within 45 days of assignment start date; renewals must be uploaded 5 days prior to expiration
