Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical First Assistant (CVOR)

Location

  • Atlanta, Georgia

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract

Contract Length

  • Approximately 15 weeks

Schedule

  • Day shift: 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
  • Call: 1 day per week and 1 weekend every ~4 weeks (subject to change)
  • Floating within facility and to Main OR as needed
  • Weekends required only during call
  • No holiday release time off (RTO) accepted

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • First-time travelers accepted

Privileging

  • Privileging process required prior to start (~120 days)
  • Pre-application fee applies for privileging
  • Full compliance with privileging and onboarding required to start on time; delays may push start date by 2 weeks

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Must have experience in Cardiac, Vascular, Endovascular, Thoracic surgery
  • Current CVOR Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification or NBSTSA or NCCSA certification
  • State license verification within 30 days prior to start (Georgia license required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required prior to start
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required prior to start
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit description

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check completed within 30 days prior to start (including education verification)
  • Education verification or official transcripts/diploma required
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start (not required by client but required by agency)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months; privileging specialties require two negative TB tests (one within 12 months and a second within 60 days of start)
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documented declination:
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended; declination form allowed)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
  • Color blindness test required; alternative assessment available if needed

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 19 hours for 19-week assignment)
  • Respirator fit test required during onsite orientation
  • Must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start

Additional Requirements

  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months
  • Verification of most recent work history required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)
  • Two clinical references required (agency requirement, not client)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required by agency (not client)
  • Competency exams (including dysrhythmia/EKG) may be required depending on unit

This position requires a thorough privileging process and full compliance with all documentation and certification requirements prior to start. The role involves day shifts with call responsibilities and floating within the facility. First-time travel Certified Surgical First Assistants with the required specialty experience and certifications are encouraged to apply.
