Medical Lab Technician - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Work Schedule: Night shifts, 7 days on / 7 days off rotation
- Wed-Sat: 8:00 PM – 6:30 AM (4x10 hours)
- Sun-Tues: 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM (3x12 hours)
- Role: Generalist Medical Lab Technician with blood bank experience required
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Total Hours per Week: 36
Required Qualifications
- Valid Medical Lab Technician license in Louisiana
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Lab Technician experience
- Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
- Prior travel experience required (no local candidates accepted)
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA Provider, Instructor, or RQI acceptable
- Competency exams as required by profession/specialty (e.g., medication/pharmacology competency)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Valid driver’s license or state ID (copy required)
- Criminal background check (updated if no assignment within last 90 days)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Annual respirator fit testing (fit mask)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with appropriate documentation for converters or BCG vaccinated workers
- 12-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, MDMA, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP, tricyclic antidepressants)
- Influenza and COVID-19 vaccination exemptions allowed for medical or religious reasons with proper documentation
- Facility-specific confidentiality agreement and system access forms to be signed prior to start
- Completion of assigned Healthstream courses during orientation, including glucose testing demonstration for accuchecks

- Two professional references required
Notes
- Flu vaccination is not mandatory for employment but documentation or declination form should be maintained
- Some certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) are not required for this role unless specified by the facility for other clinical placements; verify if applicable
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific documentation and training requirements before starting the assignment
