Job Overview

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit)

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Unit: 24-bed Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU (TCV ICU)

  • Patient population includes cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical cases such as CABG, valve replacement/repair, heart transplantation, and lung transplantation.
• Scheduling:

  • 36 or 48 hours offered
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated/guaranteed
  • Maximum 40 hours allowed for time off
• Electronic Medical Record: Must have Epic experience

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
• ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Proof of identity (government-issued photo ID)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN)
• Drug screening (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl) within 2 months of start, updated annually
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no exemptions)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold) or chest X-ray if positive
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations)
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody positive titer or antigen negative titer
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination accepted but must be documented)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions)
• Pass/Fail Cardiac Rhythm Assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
• Education verification: official transcript required (photocopy of diploma not accepted)
• References: proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluation
• Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
• Facility-specific forms including professional appearance guidelines, TB screening, traveler compliance, and fit testing acknowledgment
• Fingerprinting required for behavioral health candidates only (not applicable here)

• Candidates with latex allergy must complete a specific questionnaire.
• Orientation includes pass/fail testing on cardiac rhythms with remediation if needed.
• No prior travel experience requirement stated.
