Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide care on Medical Surgical unit with occasional stroke patients.
• Experience with stroke patients and occasional Peritoneal Dialysis patients required.
• Typical patient ratios:

  • Med/Surg days: 1:5-6
  • Med/Surg nights: 1:6-7

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience caring for stroke patients
• Experience caring for occasional Peritoneal Dialysis patients
• ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate
• Tech Cert Verification - National
• State License 1 Verification
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Certifications & Training

• BLS (AHA strongly preferred)
• ACLS (AHA strongly preferred)
• PALS (AHA strongly preferred)
• TNCC (if applicable for ER staff)
• NIH Stroke Certification (valid for 2 years)
• Harassment Prevention Training (New York requirement)

Competencies

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor Med/Surg unit; expires every 3 years)
• Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)
• Competency exam as applicable to profession

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific documentation if prior positive)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
• 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references within 3 years for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (one reference for per diem non-acute care)
• Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift
• Review and sign facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgements
• Provide appropriate photo for badge (headshot, plain background, no head coverings)

Time Off / Schedule

• Return to Office (RTO): Only one holiday allowed; total time off 7 days or less
• Local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius
