Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Burlington, Vermont
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Start date needed: May 18
  • Schedule: Rotating day/evening shifts, typically three-day shifts plus one off shift. Off shifts vary (0845-1915, 1045-2115, or 1245-2315).
  • Call: One weekday call per week plus one 24-hour call every four weeks.
  • Flexibility required to meet unit and patient care needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Vermont
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients in a large (500+ beds) trauma level 1 hospital
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Proficient circulating and scrubbing skills, including ability to scrub GU (genitourinary), ENT (ear, nose, throat), ophthalmology (eye), plastic surgery, laparoscopic (lap), trauma, and vascular cases
  • Experience with Epic within the past 2 years
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS issued by American Heart Association
  • National tech certification verification
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Certifications & Compliance

  • ACLS (AHA approved)
  • BLS (AHA approved)
  • PALS (AHA approved)
  • National tech certification verification within 30 days of assignment start.
  • State RN license primary source verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration.
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start and updated annually.
  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
  • Education verification as required.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
  • Color blindness testing.
  • Competency exams as required by specialty.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • N95 fit test prior to assignment and annually (approved mask types specified).
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap (within 10 years), MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer), Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer), Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination, Flu vaccine or exemption (seasonal), Pneumonia vaccine or declination if assigned to NY facility, COVID vaccination or declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within past 12 months, updated annually.

Additional Requirements

  • Complete all required facility-specific documents and forms prior to start (e.g., photo for badge, emergency contact, consent forms).
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation. Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires November through April.
  • Bi-weekly orientation sessions available; next orientation date is June 1.
  • No block scheduling allowed.
  • All employment gaps over 90 days must be explained.
  • Complete EPIC and facility-specific online modules prior to start.
  • Must comply with COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work.

Work Environment

  • Facility is a large trauma level 1 hospital.
  • Schedule includes Monday through Sunday coverage.
  • Call responsibilities as described above.

References & Verification

  • Two professional references from assignments within the last 3 years required.
  • Two-year verification of most recent clinical work history required.
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required.

This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with prior travel experience who are comfortable with a variety of surgical specialties and flexible scheduling.
