Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Pediatric Cardiac ICU / CVICU / CICU
- Patient Population: Critically ill children and adults with congenital heart disease
- Shift Schedule: 50/50 day and night rotation (7a-7:30p or permanent nights 7p-7:30a)
- Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
- Weekend Requirement: Must work 3 out of every 6 weekends
- Float Opportunities: MSICU, MICU, NICU, ACCU
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Cardiac ICU or related critical care specialty
- First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
- Certifications:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Massachusetts
- Experience with critical care of children and adults with congenital heart disease
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Proof of name change if applicable (for any documents under different names)
- Massachusetts CORI release form required within 60 days of start date
- Background check: 10-year criminal history within 6 months prior to start, including aliases and multiple federal/state databases
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG screenings required
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- National certification verifications as applicable
- Respiratory Safety clearance required (RespSafety virtual questionnaire and clearance)
- Two professional references from two separate employers within the last three places of employment
- Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation
- Skills checklist specific to the unit within one year prior to start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions
- Immunizations and/or titers required prior to start:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required, declinations not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual requirement)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series or declination signed within 30 days of start
- Varicella – proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer
- Drug screen: 9-panel within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually (must be current for the season)
- COVID-19 vaccine or approved exemption required; seasonal COVID vaccine preferred but not mandatory
- Additional certifications may be required if assignment is extended beyond 13 weeks (e.g., ACLS for CVICU)
Additional Notes
- On-call duty is not required
- Candidates must complete onboarding packet approximately 2 weeks prior to start
- Flu and COVID vaccine exemptions require specific forms and agency sign-off
- Facility-specific background check consent and fingerprinting process must be completed before starting
- Candidates must submit required Smartsheet attestations for flu and COVID vaccines if vaccinated outside the facility
This position is ideal for experienced Pediatric Cardiac ICU Registered Nurses with prior travel contract experience seeking a 13-week assignment in Boston with a balanced day/night rotation and weekend coverage.
