Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Facility & Unit Overview

  • Level III trauma center with 198 beds
  • Operating Room department with 10 ORs
  • Patient population: diverse, all ages
  • Patient ratio: 1:1
  • Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
  • Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, 4x10 hour shifts with variable call (4-5 shifts/month)
  • Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
  • Occasional weekend hours and call required

Job Responsibilities & Unit Profile

  • Support patients and surgeons with significant traumatic injuries
  • Anticipate and prepare necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment
  • Provide care for a variety of surgical cases, from basic laparoscopic to complex open abdominal and chest trauma surgeries
  • Work across multiple surgical specialties including Urology, Neuro, General, Gynecology, Podiatry, Plastic, Orthopedics, Dental, and ENT

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience in Neurology, Orthopedics, Trauma, Vascular Surgery, and OB/GYN surgical specialties

Additional Information

  • Must complete Area Specific Competency Exam, Skills Checklist, and Screening Questions as part of the submission process
  • Comfortable working in a high-acuity trauma OR environment
  • Ability to work independently and confidently in fast-paced surgical settings

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
