Unit Information

Unit: 7th Floor, Trauma Med/Surg
Number of Beds: 34
Patient Ratios: 6:1
Staffing Support: Tech support available on day and night shifts; Unit secretary from 7am-7pm
Equipment Used: IV Pumps, Telemetry, SCDs, Continuous Pulse Oximetry, Feeding Pumps, PCA, EKG machines, bladder scanner, iMobile communication technology
Documentation System: Meditech
Scheduling: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week; 2 weekends (4 shifts) per 4-week schedule
Floating Policy: Contract labor floats first, rotation used when multiple contract staff scheduled
Patient Experience: Emphasis on attentive, compassionate care; bedside shift report; personal connections with patients and family involvement in care planning

Required Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
BLS certification
Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience

Skills and Experience

Med/Surg experience required
Ability to prioritize care and multitask
Competent in starting IVs, basic wound care
Experience with maintenance of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes

Schedule and Dress Code

Schedule: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, including 2 weekends per 4-week period
Dress Code: Navy scrubs (tops and bottoms)

Additional Notes

The unit is part of a Level II Trauma Center with Comprehensive Stroke and Certified Chest Pain Center designations
Tech support and unit secretary available to assist nursing staff
Emphasis on teamwork and patient-centered care
