Unit Information
- Unit: 7th Floor, Trauma Med/Surg
- Number of Beds: 34
- Patient Ratios: 6:1
- Staffing Support: Tech support available on day and night shifts; Unit secretary from 7am-7pm
- Equipment Used: IV Pumps, Telemetry, SCDs, Continuous Pulse Oximetry, Feeding Pumps, PCA, EKG machines, bladder scanner, iMobile communication technology
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Scheduling: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week; 2 weekends (4 shifts) per 4-week schedule
- Floating Policy: Contract labor floats first, rotation used when multiple contract staff scheduled
- Patient Experience: Emphasis on attentive, compassionate care; bedside shift report; personal connections with patients and family involvement in care planning
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- BLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience
Skills and Experience
- Med/Surg experience required
- Ability to prioritize care and multitask
- Competent in starting IVs, basic wound care
- Experience with maintenance of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes
Schedule and Dress Code
- Schedule: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, including 2 weekends per 4-week period
- Dress Code: Navy scrubs (tops and bottoms)
Additional Notes
- The unit is part of a Level II Trauma Center with Comprehensive Stroke and Certified Chest Pain Center designations
- Tech support and unit secretary available to assist nursing staff
- Emphasis on teamwork and patient-centered care
