Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM), every other weekend
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, you will be responsible for providing safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care. You will assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans while supervising licensed and non-licensed staff. The role emphasizes quality outcomes, customer satisfaction, and professional development within a Practice Governance framework. You will also mentor and precept staff, promote teamwork, and participate in quality and safety improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Perform patient assessments and reassessments, making sound independent clinical decisions.
Develop, prioritize, implement, and revise patient care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
Provide and evaluate patient and family education related to care and discharge.
Delegate tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel; serve as a mentor and preceptor.
Participate in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and practice governance activities.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience in an inpatient setting with acute care experience
Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Experience with Epic electronic health record system
