Job Opportunity: CDI Specialist I

Location: Remote (within the U.S.)
Employment Type: Clinical - Remote
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, flexible start times between 6 AM - 7 PM
Contract Length: 52 weeks (1 year)


Job Summary

The Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (ICDI) Specialist reviews patient medical records in inpatient and/or outpatient settings to ensure accurate representation of illness severity and proper coding. This role validates that coding reflects medical necessity and supports accurate reporting of patient illness severity, risk of mortality, and complexity of care. The specialist identifies documentation gaps, collaborates with physicians and healthcare teams, and educates staff to improve clinical documentation quality and completeness.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years as an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist
    • At least 12 months in a production role within the last 2 years
  • Certifications:
    • Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
    • One of the following licenses/certifications:
      • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
      • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
      • Registered Nurse (RN)
      • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
      • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P)
      • Medical Degree (International or Domestic)
  • Education:
    • High School diploma or GED minimum
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Effective verbal and written communication, including ability to present ideas to physicians and healthcare teams
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently without close supervision
    • Ability to work well with others in a creative and challenging environment
    • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends as needed

Additional Information

  • Must be able to work 100% remotely from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Role requires knowledge of disease processes, medications, regulatory compliance, and coding/billing standards
  • Acts as an educator and resource to improve documentation quality and compliance
