Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - Temporary Night Shift

Location: Flint, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights

Job Summary

Perform medical laboratory tests and analyses to provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention. Follow established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids (blood, urine, spinal fluids, gastric juices) to determine normal and abnormal components.
• Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying cells using microscopic techniques.
• Prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by performing blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, and flame photometers, including calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and inventory management.
• Manage laboratory supplies inventory by monitoring stock levels and placing orders as needed.
• Provide medical technology information by responding to questions and requests.
• Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing laboratory findings.
• Maintain professional knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, and participation in professional societies.
• Comply with QA/QI standards and maintain a safe, clean working environment adhering to infection control and hazardous waste protocols.
• Identify and resolve problems as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist, including experience within the last year.
• ASCP certification required.

Additional Information

• This is a temporary position with a night shift schedule of 12 hours per day.
• Must adhere to all safety and quality standards in the laboratory environment.
