Infusion Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – California, Upland
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN) with oncology experience
- Setting: Infusion Clinic serving adult patients
- Patient volume: Average daily census of 50; nurse will see approximately 6 patients per day
- Work environment: Busy infusion room with multi-drug regimens
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:45 AM – 6:15 PM)
- Schedule: No weekends, no on-call duties
- Systems used: Pyxis medication system and EPIC electronic documentation
- Provider support includes interpretation services, pharmacy, and social services
- Orientation: 40 hours (may extend as needed)
- Uniform: Caribbean blue scrubs required (not provided)
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 3 years of infusion nursing experience, including infusion experience within the last year
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Chemotherapy certification from ONS or ONCC (ONS Fundamentals not accepted)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) specialty certification
Required Skills and Experience
- Chemotherapy administration and safety, including:
- Handling body fluids post-chemotherapy
- Continuous infusion and IV push administration
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring and oral administration of chemotherapy
- Recognizing and communicating abnormal lab values
- Vascular access skills:
- Accessing and managing ports and central lines
- Central line blood draws and care
- PICC line care and starting IVs
- Infusion pump management
- Intravenous hydration and multivitamin administration
- Medication administration including antiemetics, antitumor agents, antibiotics, corticosteroids, neupogen, hormonal therapy, and IV push narcotics
- Neutropenic precautions
- Phlebotomy skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bone marrow transplant (BMT) infusion center experience
- Inpatient and outpatient oncology
- Radiation oncology
- Active immunotherapy (specific and non-specific)
- Recognition and management of side effects and oncologic emergencies (e.g., anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, spinal cord compression)
- Administration of bone marrow and stem cell therapies
- Management of graft rejection and graft-versus-host disease
- Care of patients with various cancer types
- Medication tolerance and dependence assessment
- Advanced directives, hospice care, and symptom management (e.g., skin/mucous membrane alterations, altered mental status, GI symptoms, neuropathy)
- Patient and family education and support
- Withholding/withdrawing treatment and post-surgical care
Required Background and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including:
- Social Security trace
- County, nationwide, and national sex offender checks
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification and diploma/transcript required
- Primary source verification of RN license prior to start and upon expiration
- NURSYS verification prior to start
- Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within last 12 months
- Fit testing for respirator use (annual)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination form
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility protocol (including 2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) immunity via vaccination or positive titer; boosters required if titers are low
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer; declination requires proof of non-immune status and facility form
- Varicella immunity via vaccination or positive titer; boosters or declination with restrictions if declined
- 10-panel oral drug screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Respiratory safety clearance annually via virtual questionnaire reviewed by licensed healthcare professional
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Job description acknowledgement form
- Health focus questionnaire
- Religious and medical exemption forms (time sensitive, require facility approval)
- COVID booster or declination form if booster not received on or after September 2023
- Photo for badge (passport style with solid background)
- Agency badge provided upon hire

- EPIC experience is preferred but not required
