Clinical Program Coordinator (Registered Nurse) - Travel/Contract

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Shift: Day shift, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (5 days a week, 40 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work specifically in the trauma department with experience in trauma registry and American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards.
  • Focus on trauma performance improvement for a Level 1 trauma center verification process (ACS), not general floor units or CMS.
  • Responsible for pediatric readiness and care standards in the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate trauma performance improvement activities including data collection, analysis, trending, and benchmarking.
  • Review continuum of care for compliance with trauma management guidelines and standards.
  • Maintain trauma registry database ensuring documentation meets regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary Trauma Systems & Operations Committee and Peer Review meetings.
  • Liaise with clinical areas responsible for trauma patients.
  • Participate in education programs for nurses and resident physicians caring for trauma patients.
  • Submit accurate and timely data to the National Trauma Data Bank and state trauma registry.
  • Act as Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) for the Emergency Department.
  • Develop, update, and enforce policies and procedures for pediatric emergency care.
  • Monitor pediatric emergency care documentation and follow up with staff as needed.
  • Support evidence-based practice development of pediatric protocols.
  • Collaborate with nursing education to ensure competency in pediatric care areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in Trauma Emergency Room (ER), including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
  • Experience with trauma registry management and data submission.
  • Knowledge and experience with American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards for trauma care.
  • Experience with trauma performance improvement audit filters, specifically 2-digit vs 4-digit audit filters used in state and ACS trauma registry performance improvement.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and no physical limitations.
  • Annual fit mask testing (N95) required; accommodations available if unable to pass fit test.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations accepted; exemptions require approval)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titers; boosters if needed)
    • Hepatitis B series or documented immunity
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titers; boosters if needed)
  • Negative TB test within 3 months of start or chest X-ray if positive TB history; annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually (strict deadlines apply).
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted.

Orientation and Training

  • Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) including Cerner Infusion Management training.
  • Completion of required inservice training modules and pass/fail testing prior to start.
  • Review of facility-specific policies such as blood administration, dress code, math calculation for medication administration, and EKG review (for applicable units).
  • Ongoing competency validation and participation in quality improvement activities expected.

References and Documentation

  • One professional reference required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the last year.
  • Must complete annual skills checklist relevant to specialty.
  • Primary source verification of RN license and other credentials within 30 days of start.

This position is ideal for an experienced trauma RN with specialized knowledge in trauma registry and ACS Level 1 trauma center performance improvement, who is comfortable working in a fast-paced trauma environment and supporting pediatric emergency care.
