Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Description

• Work 3 twelve-hour day shifts per week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Specialty: Medical Surgical nursing

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience
• Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Background checks must be current within 30 days of assignment start, including:

  • 7-year county checks with alias/all names search
  • National Federal, USA Criminal Search (if lived outside Iowa in last 7 years)
  • Social Security Trace
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List Search
  • Sex Offender Search
• Education verification through school or National Student Clearinghouse (diploma or official transcript required)
• Two supervisory references required, at least one within the last year, from the specialty area
• Employment verification for last 7 years required
• Skills checklist for Medical Surgical unit and any float units required

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Annual physical exam or statement of health signed by MD, DO, NP, ARNP, or PA within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months (3M-N95 mask sizes required)
• Immunizations/vaccinations with proof or positive titer for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (booster within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (completion of series, positive titer, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Negative TB test (QuantiFERON gold or TSpot) within 90 days of start or acceptable chest X-ray if prior positive
• Annual TB questionnaire if prior positive TB test
• 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually by October 31
• COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not required as of 7/7/2025

Mandatory Training and Documentation

• Completion of facility-specific online learning lessons prior to start
• HIPAA and Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment (annual)
• Iowa Mandatory Reporter Certification for Child Abuse and Dependent Adult Abuse training with certification copies required (valid for 3 years)
• External Mandatory Reporter account creation and course completion through Iowa HHS website
• Facility-specific exemption request forms for flu and COVID-19 vaccines if applicable

• Candidate must provide a copy of a valid, unexpired government-issued ID (passport, driver’s license, or state ID)
• All background and compliance documents must be current and complete before assignment start
• No gaps greater than 30 days allowed in employment history for the last 7 years
