Registered Nurse – BICU (Night Shift)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730), approximately 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • Some weekends and holidays required
  • Unit: BICU (Burn Intensive Care Unit)
  • ICU experience required
  • Epic electronic health record experience required
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 1 year of Burn ICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace and nationwide sex offender search
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form required
  • Education verification as applicable for RN specialty
  • Drug screening required per standard clinical guidelines
  • Physical exam and immunization documentation per facility standards (including TB test, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or approved exemption)
  • Annual skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years required

Testing and Competency Exams

  • Telemetry testing (Adult Telemetry Test) must be completed and passed before start and updated annually
  • Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation required after 2 failed attempts
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and pass/fail testing acknowledgment required

Immunization and Health Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • MMR: 2 doses or positive titers; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer; exemptions accepted with documentation
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series and/or declination form required for direct patient care roles
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually during flu season
  • Other vaccines (e.g., Meningococcal) as applicable based on department assignment

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge issuance (no selfies, headwear only for religious/medical reasons)
  • Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start
  • Completion of required exemption forms if applicable (Flu, MMR, Varicella)
  • Signed acknowledgment of Joint Commission Safety Manual annually
